Formal Dresses for Men and Women

Even you are not a socialite, you may get a chance to be invited to a cocktail party or a formal meeting. In order to look formal and elegant, you should pay a little attention to your dress. Tuxedo for men and evening gown for women are essential.

Most gentlemen wear tuxedos when they go to formal parties, concerts or dramas. The upper part of tuxedo is similar to that of a common suit, with either single-breasted collar or double-breasted one. In the front of the tuxedo, there should be two pieces of black satin on the breast. Usually the tuxedo is black, so are the trousers, on both sides of which are two strips of black satin. White shirt with folded collar matches the black tuxedo very much.

A black tie seems to be the most solemn part of the whole outfit. It is set in the center of the shirt collar, showing a strong sense of gentility. Black socks and shoes are also essential. You can get laughed at if you wear white socks in black shoes.

In hyper-formal circumstances, like state banquets or operas, men wear black tailcoats and white shirts. Black ties are also required to show their gentlemanlike manner and grace.

For women, evening gowns can perfectly show their elegance and femininity. In the book Anna Karenina, Anna was wearing a black gown to the dancing party, and she has easily won the heart of Duke Vronsky. The evening gown should be graceful and sexy, showing the beauty of female shoulder and skin. Low-cut style is the most popular one. If a woman dances with a man, she can easily smite her partner with her sexiness and smile.

Earrings, necklace and rings are greatly important in a women's outfit. If you do not want to spend a huge amount of money, you don't have to buy real jewelries. However, they should be dazzling and eye-catching, making you the spotlight in a party or a meeting. Watches cannot help much in adding points to your look, but not bracelets. Pick one or two sparkling bracelets, and they will draw others' attention as you move your arm up and down, especially when you are dancing or shaking hands with someone else.

Women should also select their shoes and handbags carefully, as they not only have to be elegant and aristocratic, but also have to go with your evening gown.

Most importantly, people judge you not only by your look, but also by your manner. Speak friendly, shake hands with people sincerely, and dance gracefully.
